Gabe Murray made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
In other pitching news, Casey Murray looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Middle Creek got a big performance out of Brady Pierson, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Pierson has posted since back in February. Garrett Sladek was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing three bases.
Middle Creek hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matches.
Middle Creek's record now sits at 9-3. As for Cary, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Middle Creek will take on Wakefield in a tournament on Thursday. Wakefield's pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so Middle Creek's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Cary, they are taking a road trip to face off against Cardinal Gibbons at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Cardinal Gibbons will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Cary surely won't give up without a fight.
