After flying high against the Douglas Byrd Eagles on Tuesday, the Cape Fear Colts came back down to earth. Cape Fear fell 45-32 to Fairmont on Wednesday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Cape Fear has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Cape Fear still got an impressive performance from Mehakai Coleman, who scored seven points along with ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Rico McDonald, who scored five points along with five rebounds.
Fairmont's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Landon Cummings led the charge by dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. Josiah Billings was another key contributor, scoring six points along with 17 rebounds.
Cape Fear has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season. As for Fairmont, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 16-4.
Cape Fear will head out on the road to face off against Jack Britt at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Cape Fear focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Wednesday. As for Fairmont, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Red Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Fairmont is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 60.8 points per game this season.
