Softball Recap: Four Straight Road Wins for Shorecrest Prep

Cambridge Christian typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday Shorecrest Prep proved too difficult a challenge. They were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over the Lancers. The win continues a trend for the Chargers in their matchups with the Lancers: they've now won five in a row.

Samantha Beltran and Bobbie Strus made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Beltran didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Strus struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Beltran has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Beltran scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Strus scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. That stolen base was Strus' first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madi Bidwell, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Lauren Sas also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Shorecrest Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Shorecrest Prep's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-1. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8.2 runs. As for Cambridge Christian, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-3.

Shorecrest Prep has already played their next match, an 11-0 win against Boca Ciega on the 1st. As for Cambridge Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 7-0 victory against St. Petersburg Catholic on the 1st.
