Caldwell hasn't had much luck against Frontier recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Caldwell Redskins will venture away from home to take on the Frontier Cougars at 7:00 p.m.
Caldwell is headed into Monday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game on Thursday. They lost 57-33 to River.
Despite the loss, Caldwell saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Breighlee Moracco went 5 of 10 on her way to 13 points. That was a full 39.4% of Caldwell's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Laynie Sidwell, who put up five points.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Frontier took on Shadyside last Saturday. Frontier came out on top against Shadyside by a score of 58-45. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 253rd, while the Tigers are ranked 643rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Caldwell better keep an eye on Kelsey Dye. She was instrumental in Frontier's win, going 9 of 13 en route to 26 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Those 26 points gave Dye a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna Bowersock, who went 7 of 17 on her way to 16 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.
Caldwell's defeat dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Frontier, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Caldwell has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 24.8 boards per game. However, it's not like Frontier struggles in that department as they've been averaging 36.7 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Caldwell was able to grind out a solid victory over Frontier in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, winning 51-40. Does Caldwell have another victory up their sleeve, or will Frontier turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
