Seneca hasn't had much luck against Union City recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Bobcats will look to defend their home field against the Bears at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Union City will be up against a hot Seneca squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. The Bobcats never let Girard get on the board and left with a 12-0 win on Tuesday. While the Bobcats didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-10), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Union City). They put the hurt on Mercyhurst Prep with a sharp 23-4 victory on Thursday. The Bears haven't had any issues with the Lakers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Kaegann Gregor was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and not a single walk). Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Union City let Desirae Brown and Alissa Leech run wild. Brown went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one double, while Leech went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most runs Brown has posted since back in April of 2024. Cheyenne Cummings was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
Union City was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Seneca pushed their record up to 4-0 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Union City, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
Seneca might still be hurting after the 11-1 loss they got from Union City in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Bobcats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
