Orting has gone 9-1 against Steilacoom recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Cardinals will square off against the Sentinels at 4:00 p.m. Orting will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
Orting is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They walked away with a 15-11 victory over Eatonville on Friday.
Kathryn Prest made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and nine unearned) runs off 11 hits. Those hits were her first of the season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Orting let Madalynn Halte and Katie Arnett run wild. Halte scored three runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-5, while Arnett scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Arnett continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Alwina Alokoa also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Orting kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Steilacoom was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 19-18 heartbreaker at the hands of Foss. Even if the Sentinels couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Izzy Cortez and Harper Runn did some serious damage despite the final result: Cortez scored three runs while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances, while Runn got on base in five of her six plate appearances with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Aubrie Clark, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Orting's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-5. As for Steilacoom, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Orting has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Steilacoom struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Orting took their win against Steilacoom when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 29-17 score. Do the Cardinals have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Sentinels turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
