The Mount Vernon Patriots on the road again on Thursday and play against the Milford Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on January 18th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Utah (Mount Vernon is ranked 119th, while Milford is ranked 100th).
Mount Vernon posted their biggest victory yet this season on Wednesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Dugway 72-28 on the road. With Mount Vernon ahead 47-15 at the half, the match was all but over already.
It was another big night for Andrew McMurdie, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. He hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for five straight games. Joao De Oliveira was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with eight rebounds and six assists.
Meanwhile, Milford pushed their score all the way to 55 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Valley 61-55. Milford's defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Sadler Barnes put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 25 points along with four steals. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played. Another player making a difference was Kason Kesler, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.
Mount Vernon's victory bumped their record up to 4-9. As for Milford, their loss dropped their record down to 9-5.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the pair are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Mount Vernon hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 55.4 points per game. It's a different story for Milford, though, as they've been averaging only 56.2 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Mount Vernon came up short against Milford in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, falling 57-45. Can Mount Vernon avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
