The West Lincoln Rebels were the 56-29 winner over the Bunker Hill Bears when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. West Lincoln was just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 49-48 to the Bears. West Lincoln's loss continues an unfortunate trend for the team, making it three in a row.
West Lincoln's loss came despite strong showings from Zoey Owenby and Carolina Robinson. Owenby scored 20 points along with six rebounds and five assists, while Robinson dropped a double-double on 16 points and 17 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Owenby has scored all season.
Even though they lost, West Lincoln were working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
It was another big night for Damireona Burch, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds for Bunker Hill. That makes it three consecutive games in which Burch has scored at least a third of Bunker Hill's points. Another player making a difference was Megan Starnes, who scored six points along with ten rebounds and three blocks.
West Lincoln dropped their record down to 7-13 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Bunker Hill, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-14.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Lincoln will take on the Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. West Caldwell has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since January 5. As for Bunker Hill, they will head out on the road to challenge the Blue Devils at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Maiden focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Friday.
