MAIS A District 1 recap Oct. 9, 2012
Lee Academy moved up to 216 from 321 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in MAIS A District 1. The Cougars were able to make the jump by beating the Cougars 41-12.
Bayou Academy's dynamic duo of Caleb Pilgrim and Weber Herbison proved tough for Greenville Christian to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Pilgrim threw for 155 yards and one touchdown and Herbison had 70 yards receiving. Ty Holder helped Bayou Academy's passing attack out by catching one ball for 55 yards.
David Lewis was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 76 yards on 12 carries as West Memphis Christian beat the Saints.
Thanks to the talents of Russ Fitzgerald and Lewis the Black Knights have been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Fitzgerald leads the league in passing with 545 yards, while Lewis has rushed for 612 yards this season. Bayou Academy's Pilgrim leads the league in receiving yards with 233 on seven catches.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when West Memphis Christian takes on DeSoto. Chris Norton's team is currently in fourth, while the Thunderbirds are in second.
Deer Creek led MAIS A District 1 in scoring this week after putting up 42 points on Strider Academy.
