The Garey Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the La Puente Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Garey sitting on four straight victories and La Puente on six.
Last Friday, Garey didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Bassett, but they still walked away with a 12-7 victory.
Garey's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alex Vaca, who rushed for 81 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries. Garey also got a significant boost from Miguel Pascual, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 94 yards.
Meanwhile, La Puente was not the first on the board last Friday, but they got there more often. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Ganesha 24-21.
La Puente can attribute much of their success to Junior Preyer , who picked up 154 receiving yards and a touchdown, and Ezekeil Zamora, who threw for 362 yards and two touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes.
Their wins bumped Garey to 4-5 and La Puente to 8-1.
Friday's match might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Garey has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 234.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like La Puente struggles in that department as they've been averaging 147.8 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Everything went Garey's way against La Puente when the teams last played back in October of 2022 as Garey made off with a 41-21 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Garey since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
