The Ridgemont Golden Gophers are taking a road trip to challenge the Cory-Rawson Fighting Hornets at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ridgemont is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Ridgemont fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against North Baltimore on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 10-6 to the Tigers.
Mason Woodruff was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Jon Cromer, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Cory-Rawson had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Ridgedale 10-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Fighting Hornets have posted since March 28, 2024.
Mason Hall made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He is becoming a predictor of Cory-Rawson's success: when he posts at least ten strikeouts the team is 2-1 (and 0-6 when he doesn't). Hall was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Cory-Rawson got a big performance out of Austin Inbody, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. That RBI was Inbody's first of the season. Mason Fruth was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Ridgemont has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for Cory-Rawson, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 2-7.
Ridgemont took their victory against Cory-Rawson in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 18-8 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Gophers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
