Baseball Recap: Gateway Wins Going Away Against Thornton

While Gateway didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past the Thornton Trojans 17-3 on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Olympians, who have now won five games by ten runs or more so far this season.

Angel Ferrusquia and Mervin Loya did most of the damage at the plate: Ferrusquia went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI, while Loya went 2-for-3 with five stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Gateway is undefeated when Ferrusquia posts three or more RBI, but 2-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Roberto Rosario, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Gateway always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .583 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Gateway is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games. As for Thornton, they are on an 18-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-14.

Gateway wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 10-4 win against Aurora Central on the 17th. As for Thornton, they have also already played their next contest, a 17-7 loss against Overland on the 17th.
