For the first time this season, Cloverdale will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They are headed away from home for the first time to challenge the West Vigo Vikings at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cloverdale is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.5 runs per game this season.
Things were looking good for Cloverdale after they put the first runs on the board on Monday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of Monrovia. The loss was the Clovers' first of the season.
Aalyiah Burroff made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
Meanwhile, on Monday West Vigo's undefeated season almost came to an end. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 win over Riverton Parke. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Jaleigh Lindley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lily Krause, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Grace Rodgers, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
West Vigo pushed their record up to 8-0 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 3.75 runs across that stretch. As for Cloverdale, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.
Both Cloverdale and West Vigo just can't seem to miss. The Clovers have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.8 hits per game. However, it's not like West Vigo struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.1 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Cloverdale suffered a grim 13-2 defeat to West Vigo in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Clovers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
