Orangeburg Prep and St. John's Christian Academy are an even 3-3 against one another since February of 2022, but likely not for long. The Indians will be playing at home against the Cavaliers at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Orangeburg Prep made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Calhoun Academy, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Indians were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Cavaliers on Thursday. Considering the Indians have won 12 matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Charlie McCutchen was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, St. John's Christian Academy entered their tilt with Dorchester Academy on Friday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They didn't even let the Raiders on the board, marking their second-straight 6-0 shutout.
Sumter Moorer made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because St. John's Christian Academy is 6-2 when he allows at most two walks, but 2-3 otherwise. Moorer was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Landon Chipman, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Lucas Morrison also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
St. John's Christian Academy pushed their record up to 8-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Orangeburg Prep, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 15 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-3 record this season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Orangeburg Prep has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like St. John's Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Orangeburg Prep couldn't quite get it done against St. John's Christian Academy in their previous matchup back in March as they fell 6-1. Will the Indians have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
