The Hunter Wolverines pushed their score all the way to 70 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 71-70 to Herriman. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Hunter in their matchups with Herriman: they've now lost four in a row.
Hunter's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Uluaki Taukiuvea, who scored 19 points along with 6 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Dominick Phannolath, who scored 20 points.
Leading Herriman to victory were Malcolm Johnson and Cale Barclay. Johnson dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 rebounds, while Barclay scored 22 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Ike Palmer was another key contributor, scoring 9 points along with 5 assists and 4 steals.
Hunter's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Herriman, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
Hunter will be playing in front of their home fans against Providence Hall at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Providence Hall focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Tuesday. As for Herriman, they will head out on the road to face off against American Fork at 1:20 p.m. on Thursday.
