The St. Maries Lumberjacks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fourth straight loss. They were dealt a 80-24 loss at the hands of Grangeville. St. Maries was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 53-11.
Despite the defeat, St. Maries had strong showings from Jacklin Linnemeyer, who scored six points along with two steals, and Averie Baird, who scored no points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, St. Maries struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Grangeville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Madalyn Green led the charge by dropping a double-double on 23 points and 14 rebounds. Green is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Caryss Barger, who scored 23 points along with eight steals and six rebounds.
St. Maries' loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Grangeville, their win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Maries will take on Troy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Grangeville, they will be playing at home against Kendrick at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Kendrick is coming into the match hot, having won their last ten games.
