The Jay Royals scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 68-48 margin over Freeport. Jay has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matchups by 20 points or more this season.
Jay got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Aubreigh Nelson out in front who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Gilbreath, who scored 17 points along with two steals.
Despite the loss, Freeport still got an impressive performance from Jasmine Miles, who scored 25 points along with six rebounds and four steals. That was a full 52.1% of Freeport's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Shelby Cosson was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Jay's win bumped their record up to 14-3. As for Freeport, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-9.
Jay will head out on the road to square off against Baker at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Baker focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Friday. As for Freeport, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against South Walton at 6:30 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Florida (South Walton is ranked 218th, while Freeport is ranked 236th).
