The Webster County Highlanders will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Tucker County Mountain Lions at 7:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Webster County waltzed into their game on Monday with eight straight wins but they left with nine. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Braxton County 92-46 at home. Given Webster County's advantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 28th, while Braxton County is ranked 109th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Riley Clevenger, who scored 35 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Raydan Triplett, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals.
Meanwhile, Tucker County took their match on the road on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 70-41 victory over Hampshire.
Tucker County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trevan Bonner, who scored 23 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Rosenau, who scored 19 points.
Webster County's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.9 points per game. As for Tucker County, their win bumped their record up to 13-3.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Webster County and Tucker County are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Webster County hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 70.4 points per game. However, it's not like Tucker County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 67.1 points per game.
