The Trenton Tigers waltzed into their game on Tuesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They took down Chiefland 40-21. Given Trenton's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 108th, while Chiefland is ranked 324th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Trenton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brianna Karanja led the charge by dropping a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Karanja has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Koi Perry, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds and five steals.
Chiefland's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nyasia Bivins, who scored eight points along with 13 rebounds and four blocks. Another player making a difference was Laila Ingram, who scored five points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Trenton's victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.3 points per game. As for Chiefland, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Trenton will square off against Branford at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Chiefland, they will head out on the road to take on Riverside Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
