Hoover is a perfect 5-0 against Independence since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Huskies will be playing in front of their home fans against the Patriots at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Hoover's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on South Charleston with a sharp 8-0 victory. The win was nothing new for the Huskies as they're now sitting on five straight.
Hannah Shamblin was a major factor no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bella Haas, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Kyleigh Elmore was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
Hoover was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .414 or higher in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Independence got the win against Liberty on Tuesday by a conclusive 14-1.
Kenzie Pierce tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
At the plate, Independence got a massive performance out of Emma Lilly, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Bella Lilly, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Independence's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Hoover, their victory bumped their record up to 10-2.
Hoover skirted past Independence 4-2 in their previous matchup back in May of 2023. Do the Huskies have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Patriots turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
