Baseball Game Preview: Newfield Wolverines vs. Northport Tigers

For the second straight game, Newfield will face off against Northport. The Wolverines will face off against the Tigers at 5:15 p.m. on Friday.

Newfield is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Northport with a sharp 13-1 win on Thursday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Wolverines needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Brandon Seddio spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits. He is becoming a predictor of Newfield's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is undefeated (and 5-8 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Newfield let Dylan Alberto and Albert Morel run wild. Alberto went 2-for-3 with one home run and three runs, while Morel went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That home run marked the first that Alberto has launched this season. Jayden Ramirez was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Newfield lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Newfield is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Northport, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-8.
