Basketball Recap: Charlestown Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Victory

Charlestown waltzed into their game on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came out on top against the Boonville Pioneers by a score of 55-45. Given the Pirates' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 63rd, while the Pioneers are ranked 230th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Charlestown got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Demetrius Phelps out in front who went 8 of 11 en route to 18 points and three steals. Phelps is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Fresh, who went 8 of 15 on his way to 18 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.

Charlestown's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Boonville, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-4.

Charlestown wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 54-49 win against South Spencer on the 27th. Boonville has also already played their next contest, a 49-47 defeat against Perry Central on the 28th.
