Southern Door is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Chilton, sneaking past 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted since April 29th.
Alanah Kaye and Samantha Melville were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Kaye pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Meanwhile, Melville tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. At the plate, Kaye went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Melville went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases Melville has posted since back in April.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Audrey Plzack, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Brillion had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Raiders a 5-0 shutout.
The result came thanks to Grace Krueger's shutout, as she gave up just five hits.
At the plate, Amaya Brooks was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Southern Door is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Brillion, their victory bumped their record up to 20-3.
Southern Door couldn't quite finish off Brillion in their previous meeting on May 5th and fell 4-2. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
