The Doral Academy Red Rock Dragons will take on the Cheyenne Desert Shields at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Doral Academy Red Rock is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.
Last Friday, Doral Academy Red Rock didn't have quite enough to beat Bonanza and fell 2-1.
Sebastian Zaman was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cheyenne). They put the hurt on Awaken Christian with a sharp 24-5 victory on Saturday. The Desert Shields might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by six runs or more this season.
Adrian Catalan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up five earned runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Cheyenne got a massive performance out of Esai Esparza, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases Esparza has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Cole Steiner, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
Cheyenne always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .725. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Awaken Christian only posted an OBP of .368.
The win made it two in a row for Cheyenne and bumps their season record up to 14-3. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 21.0 runs over those games. As for Doral Academy Red Rock, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Doral Academy Red Rock has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cheyenne struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Doral Academy Red Rock suffered a grim 7-0 defeat to Cheyenne in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Dragons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
