After a string of nine wins, The Peru Tigers''s good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 27-19 hit to the loss column at the hands of Guerin Catholic. While losing is never fun, Peru can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana football rankings (they are ranked 90th, while Guerin Catholic is ranked 35th).
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tanner Boggs, who rushed for 84 yards and a touchdown on only five carries. Boggs' longest rush was for an incredible 79 yards. Matthew Roettger was another key contributor, rushing for 76 yards and a touchdown.
Guerin Catholic's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Peter Rooney, who rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns. Rooney is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Zimmerman, who threw for 193 yards and two touchdowns.
Peru's loss dropped their record down to 9-1. As for Guerin Catholic, their victory was their seventh straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 8-2.
Peru does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Guerin Catholic will be playing at home against Indianapolis Bishop Chatard at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Indianapolis Bishop Chatard has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 157 points over their last four contests.
