Mandarin had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They blew past the Creekside Knights 42-20. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 23rd, while the Knights are ranked 95th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mandarin's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Shaunqueze Foster, who rushed for 102 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 14 carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Knox Annis, who threw for 144 yards and one TD.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Mandarin was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 360 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 163 rushing yards in seven consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
