Leesburg is 1-9 against Umatilla since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Leesburg Yellow Jackets will square off against the Umatilla Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Leesburg has four straight wins, Umatilla has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Two weeks ago, Leesburg made easy work of Cedar Key and carried off a 17-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Yellow Jackets, who have now won eight matchups by 15 runs or more so far this season.
Rachel Chiles was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Cassidy Custer was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Addison Hunter, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.
Leesburg kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Umatilla didn't have quite enough to beat Mount Dora on Tuesday and fell 5-4.
Kiersten Hunsicker was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
Leesburg pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 17.4 runs. As for Umatilla, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Leesburg hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .415. However, it's not like Umatilla struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Leesburg might still be hurting after the 15-0 defeat they got from Umatilla when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Can Leesburg avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
