Monroe Central is 8-1 against Union City since May of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Golden Bears will take on the Indians at 10:00 a.m. Monroe Central will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Monroe Central is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They came out on top against Cambridge City Lincoln by a score of 9-6.

Isaac Middleton made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Middleton was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. Monroe Central is undefeated when Middleton posts two or more runs, but 8-13 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lane Wilson, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That stolen base was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Levi Pence, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, Union City made sure to put some runs up on the board against Blue River Valley on Wednesday. The Indians put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 11-5 win. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by six runs or more this season.
Like Monroe Central, Union City also got a great game from a two-way player: Trendon Spence. He didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Spence has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Caleb Lutz was excellent, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two RBI. Joseangel Perez-Contreras was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Union City has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-11 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Monroe Central, they now have a winning record of 14-13.
Everything went Monroe Central's way against Union City when the teams last played back in May of 2022, as Monroe Central made off with a 10-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Bears since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
