The Decatur Eagles extended their postseason success on Friday against the Estacado Matadors. They breezed by the Matadors at home to the tune of 52-21. Winning may never get old, but Decatur sure are getting used to it with their eighth in a row.
Nate palmer was his usual excellent self, rushing for 224 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 7.2 yards per carry. Palmer has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last five times he's played.
Despite the loss, Estacado still got an impressive performance from Dj Johnson, who threw for 222 yards and three touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Devoryea Boyd, who picked up 72 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Decatur pushed their record up to 9-4 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points per game. As for Estacado, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-3.
Decatur will head out on the road to face off against Brownwood at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Brownwood is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. Estacado does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
