Basketball Recap: Combs Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Quinmetris Cunningham and Jaimin Amador

After flying high against Crismon last Friday, Combs came back down to earth. The Combs Coyotes lost to the ALA - Queen Creek Patriots on the road by a 65-46 margin on Wednesday. The Coyotes have struggled against the Patriots recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Jaimin Amador and Quinmetris Cunningham certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. Amador went 5 of 8 en route to 12 points and seven rebounds, while Cunningham went 6 for 9 on his way to 13 points and five boards. Cunningham is also crushing it when it comes to blocks: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Daniel Washington, who posted eight points.

ALA - Queen Creek's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tyson Kimball, who went 7 of 9 en route to 15 points and eight boards. Layfe Clarkson was another key player, going 6 for 15 on his way to 15 points and eight rebounds.

Combs' defeat dropped their record down to 10-7. As for ALA - Queen Creek, they pushed their record up to 11-5 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.

Combs has already played their next game, a 66-48 loss against Marcos de Niza on the 17th. As for ALA - Queen Creek, they are taking a road trip to challenge Higley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. ALA - Queen Creek knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Higley likes a good challenge.
