The Ponderosa Bruins will head out on the road to face off against the Nevada Union Miners at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Ponderosa gave up the first points last Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They took down Lincoln 32-14. The win was just what Ponderosa needed coming off of a 41-14 loss in their prior matchup.
Ponderosa got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Austin Sanchez out in front who rushed for 59 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 120 yards and a touchdown on only nine passes. Ponderosa also got a significant boost from Dylan Alexander, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 169 yards.
Meanwhile, Nevada Union put the finishing touches on their fourth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They really took it to Oakmont for the full four quarters, racking up a 45-7 victory on the road. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Nevada Union had established a 31 point advantage.
Nevada Union can attribute much of their success to Bodey Eelkema, who rushed for 141 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries. Dustin Philpott was another key contributor, throwing for 122 yards and two touchdowns.
Ponderosa's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Nevada Union, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Ponderosa was dealt a bruising 40-7 defeat at the hands of Nevada Union in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Can Ponderosa avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
