The Summit Shasta Black Bears will square off against the Latino College Preparatory Academy Golden Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
On Friday, it was close, but Summit Shasta sidestepped El Primero for an 8-7 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Black Bears.
Izzy Basaca and AJ Hall did most of the damage at the plate: Basaca went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Hall went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Ava Concepcion was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs.
Summit Shasta was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as El Primero only posted a batting average of .212.
Meanwhile, Latino College Preparatory Academy entered their tilt with KIPP San Jose Collegiate on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Wolfpack, sneaking past 16-14. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Golden Eagles have posted since April 19, 2024.
ANDREA SANCHEZ was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, seven RBI, and four runs. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of JOCELYN LOMELI, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.
Latino College Preparatory Academy's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 13.3 runs this season. As for Summit Shasta, their victory bumped their record up to 2-0.
Summit Shasta suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Latino College Preparatory Academy in their previous matchup back in April of 2019. Can the Black Bears avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
