Hidalgo Early College hasn't had much luck against Tuloso-Midway recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Pirates will head out on the road to square off against the Warriors & Cherokees at 7:00 p.m. The contest will give Hidalgo Early College their first taste of in-conference action this season.
The home team had won the previous seven meetings between Hidalgo Early College and Grulla, and Grulla kept the tradition alive. The Pirates took a 28-20 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Gators on Friday.
Hidalgo Early College's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Roberto Gallegos, who rushed for 116 yards and one score, and Javier Martinez, who picked up 76 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Eduardo Barrera was in the mix too, providing the Pirates with three TDs.
Meanwhile, Tuloso-Midway gave up the first points on Friday, but they didn't give up any more after. They were the clear victors by a 28-7 margin over Alice. Considering the Warriors & Cherokees have won four matchups by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Hidalgo Early College better keep an eye on Damian Figueroa. He was instrumental in Tuloso-Midway's win, rushing for 201 yards and four scores while picking up 7.7 yards per carry. Figueroa was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 52 yards.
Tuloso-Midway was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 326 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 200 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Tuloso-Midway's defense and their five sacks. In that department, Ayden Gilchrist was the leader with two. Jaython Ayala was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 13 total tackles (5.0 for loss).
Tuloso-Midway's record now sits at 5-1. As for Hidalgo Early College, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.

Friday's game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Gallegos and Figueroa. Gallegos just won't slow down this season and has run in 4 touchdowns while averaging 116.8 rushing yards per game. Figueroa has been a dominant force too and has run in 18 touchdowns while averaging 202.5 rushing yards per game.
Hidalgo Early College was taken down by Tuloso-Midway 45-7 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Can the Pirates avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
