Basketball Recap: Progreso Comes Up Short

After flying high against San Isidro on Friday, Progreso came back down to earth. The Red Ants were outmatched by the Raymondville Bearkats and fell 58-25. The Red Ants have struggled against the Bearkats recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Isael Trevino and Samuel Hernandez certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Trevino posted seven points, while Hernandez put up seven points and four steals. Hernandez is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season.

Leading Raymondville to victory were Jaden Mendez and Diego Villegas. Mendez shot 83% from the field en route to 10 points along with eight rebounds and three steals, while Villegas went 5-for-7 to rack up 10 points. The last time Mendez's field goal percentage was this high was back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Adolfo Mata, who went 5-for-12 on his way to 13 points.

Progreso's loss dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Raymondville, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2.

Progreso wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 42-21 defeat against Freer on the 6th. As for Raymondville, they have also already played their next contest, an 85-21 win against Juan Diego Academy on the 6th.
