D1 District 2 (8 Man) recap Oct. 3, 2012
Ben Kuehn of Howells-Dodge ran for the longest rushing play in D1 District 2 (8 Man) this season against Omaha Christian Academy last week. Kuehn scampered for 75 yards on the play and finished with 107 on the day as his team topped the Eagles.
Howells-Dodge extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Omaha Christian Academy, 72-22. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Clarkson/Leigh's dynamic duo of John Steffensmeier and Lucas Gurnsey proved tough for Guardian Angels Central Catholic to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Steffensmeier threw for 92 yards and one touchdown and Gurnsey had 75 yards receiving. Colton Tomka helped Clarkson/Leigh's passing attack out by catching one ball for 17 yards.
Matthew Gooch was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 174 yards on 12 carries as the Jaguars fell to the Bluejays.
Luke Hegemann made the biggest impact on defense this week as Howells-Dodge bested Tim Hamilton's team. The junior forced one fumble, recorded one fumble and grabbed one sack.
Clarkson/Leigh's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Patriots feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Steffensmeier has thrown for 240 yards and five touchdowns this season, while Tomka has six catches for 161 yards. Gurnsey leads the league in rushing with 636 yards.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between the Jaguars and Guardian Angels Central Catholic. Howells-Dodge enters the game ranked 19th in the state, while Dave Ridder's team ranks 14th.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Jaguars take on the Bluejays. Howells-Dodge has allowed 92 points this season, while Guardian Angels Central Catholic has given up 51. The Jaguars allowed 22 points last week as they topped the Eagles.
Howells-Dodge made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 162 from 246. The improvement was the result of 72-22 victory over Omaha Christian Academy last week.
