The Wewoka Tigers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Liberty Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Wewoka has struggled recently with ten defeats in a row, while Liberty will arrive with three straight wins.
Wewoka fell victim to Savanna's stalwart defense two weeks ago and couldn't make it onto the board. They were outmatched by the Bulldogs on the road and fell 36-0.
Meanwhile, Liberty really took it to Allen for the full four quarters, racking up a 57-18 victory at home. The result was nothing new for Liberty, who have now won four contests by 34 points or more so far this season.
Liberty can attribute much of their success to Trent Thompson, who threw for 179 yards and two touchdowns while completing 72.2% of his passes, and Jaylen Prestridge, who rushed for 127 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry. Chunk Bilby was in the mix too, providing Liberty with two touchdowns.
Liberty's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Elias Reynaga and his two sacks.
Wewoka's defeat was their ninth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-7. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 5.78 points per game. Liberty has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in six of their first seven games, giving them a 6-1 record.
Wewoka was dealt a bruising 55-8 loss at the hands of Liberty in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Wewoka, Mason Sinnett (who rushed for 58 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
