Silver Lake and Giltner are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2015, but not for long. The Silver Lake Mustangs will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Giltner Hornets at 6:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Last Tuesday, Silver Lake was the victim of a tough 55-32 loss at the hands of Shelton. Silver Lake has not had much luck with Shelton recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Despite the loss, Silver Lake saw an underclassman step up: Makenna Karr dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. It was the first time this season that Karr scored 15 or more points.
Meanwhile, Giltner suffered a rough 54-29 loss at the hands of Deshler on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Giltner can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 273rd, while Deshler is ranked 114th).
Tracy Wiles put forth a good effort for the losing side as she dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
Silver Lake's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-6. As for Giltner, they dropped their record down to 4-13 with that loss, which was their eighth straight at home.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Silver Lake have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Giltner struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Silver Lake against Giltner when the teams last played back in February of 2023 as the team secured a 56-14 victory. With Silver Lake ahead 34-6 at the half, the game was all but over already.
