Baseball Recap: Somerset Academy Comes Up Short

After flying high against American last Thursday, Somerset Academy came back down to earth. The Somerset Academy Panthers fell just short of the IMater Charter Knights by a score of 6-5 on Monday. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Knights apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Liam DeCicco was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Tristan Sierra and Jon Mora did some serious damage despite the final result: Sierra scored a run and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Mora scored a run and stole Four bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Mora has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alan Sanchez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Somerset Academy has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only 1.33 runs. The win (which was iMater Charter's third in a row) raised their record to 8-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Somerset Academy Panthers take on Chaminade-Madonna Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Chaminade-Madonna is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season. As for iMater Charter, they will square off against Ferguson at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. IMater Charter is facing Ferguson at the right time seeing as Ferguson is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
