The Donegal Indians will challenge the Hempfield Black Knights at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Donegal made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Warwick, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Donegal never let Warwick get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Monday. The Indians' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Caleb Rupp was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Rupp was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other pitching news, Ryan Beck looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Sawyer Floyd was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. He also brought in an RBI, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Shaun DiBello, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Donegal was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Hempfield put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They came out on top against Central York by a score of 17-14.
Hempfield got a massive performance out of Brayden Hostetter, who scored five runs and stole three bases while going 4-for-4. Jevin Seifert was another key player, going 3-for-5 with six RBI, two doubles, and one run.
The win got Donegal back to even at 2-2. As for Hempfield, their victory bumped their record up to 3-0.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Donegal has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Hempfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Donegal couldn't quite get it done against Hempfield in their previous matchup back in April of 2018 as they fell 6-1. Can Donegal avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
