2A-1 Region II District 7 recap September 24, 2013
Quitman's Rosendo Preciado rumbled for the longest rushing play in 2A-1 Region II District 7 this season in his game against Mineola last week. Preciado ran for 56 yards on the play and finished with 77 on the day as his team fell to the Yellowjackets.
Winnsboro moved up to 538 from 601 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Raiders were able to move up by topping Mt. Vernon 15-14.
Jake Williams threw for 204 yards and 4 touchdowns. He was 17-22 with 0 interception.
Lane Davis was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 21 carries, he ran for 92 yards as Grand Saline lost to Mineola. Andy Gibson also contributed to the rushing game with 49 yards on the ground.
Williams put up the best numbers through the air as Lone Oak bested Chisum.
6-foot-0 quarterback Williams of the Buffaloes is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,102. He has also thrown 13 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Davis. The Grand Saline star has 2 catches for 45 yards.
The Indians are currently in seventh, while Malakoff is in first.
The Tigers extended the longest winning streak in 2A-1 Region II District 7 this week by beating Westwood, 62-19. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
