A District 5 recap September 17, 2013
Lincoln Northeast's Makiah Slade rumbled for the longest rushing play in A District 5 this season in his game against Lincoln last week. Slade ran for 76 yards on the play and finished with 159 on the day as his team beat the Links.
Lincoln East took down North Platte 42-7 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Luke Gifford provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Lincoln Southeast defeated Millard South. He completed 8 passes for 87 yards and also ran for 126 yards. Gifford's favorite target this week was Brady Blazek, who caught 4 passes for 64 yards.
Blazek was the best wideout in the league this week as the Knights bested the Patriots.
Zach Petitt put up the best numbers in passing as Pius X topped Omaha Northwest. He finished with 6 completions for 97 yards. Petitt's favorite target this week was Noah Appleget, who caught 3 passes for 55 yards.
Appleget was a key player and the best on defense this week as the Thunderbolts beat the Huskies. He pulled down 2 interceptions.
Slade was the best running back in the league this week.
Leading A District 5 in both passing and receiving yards, Pius X's Petitt and Appleget have proven to be a lethal combination. Petitt has thrown for 384 yards this season, while Appleget has 12 catches for 165 yards. Lincoln Northeast's Slade leads the league in rushing yards with 355.
The Spartans made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,396 from 6,116. The improvement came about via a 42-7 victory over the Bulldogs last week.
