The Cooper Bulldogs had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 35.6 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They came out on top against Honey Grove by a score of 34-21. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Cooper also won the last time the pair played back in October of 2022.
Canon Ingram continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 183 yards and three touchdowns, while also throwing for 90 yards and two touchdowns on only five passes. Markell Smith was in the mix as well, providing Cooper with two touchdowns.
Honey Grove's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Deon Morris, who rushed for 68 yards and a touchdown on only six carries. Morris was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 50 yards.
Cooper's victory was their seventh straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 7-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 45.9 points per game. As for Honey Grove, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-1-1.
Cooper will take on Alba-Golden at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Alba-Golden will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 850th, while Cooper is ranked 309th). As for Honey Grove, they will head out on the road to face off against Wolfe City at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Wolfe City will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
