The Bloomfield Bees and the Wausa Vikings will round out the year against one another at 2:00 p.m. on Friday at. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 78-46, which was the final score in Bloomfield's tilt against Laurel-Concord-Coleridge on Tuesday. Bloomfield was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-21.
Despite the defeat, Bloomfield got a solid performance out of Madison Abbenhaus, who scored 32 points. Abbenhaus scored a full 69.6% of Bloomfield's points, the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Kora Poppe, who scored six points.
Meanwhile, Wausa's recent rough patch got a bit rougher last Monday after their fifth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 74-31 loss at the hands of Niobrara/Verdigre. While losing is never fun, Wausa can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 234th, while Niobrara/Verdigre is ranked 65th).
Wausa's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Taylor Dawson, who scored 21 points, and Olivia Barta who scored six points along with five rebounds. The match was Dawson's third in a row with at least ten points.
Wausa struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Niobrara/Verdigre racked up 13 assists.
Bloomfield has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. As for Wausa, their loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 1-6.
Bloomfield came up short against Wausa when the teams last played back in January, falling 44-33. Thankfully for Bloomfield, Alexa Cunningham (who scored 17 points along with nine rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
