The Banning Pilots will be playing in front of their home fans against the La Jolla Country Day Torreys at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Banning sitting on four straight wins and La Jolla Country Day on six.
With a playoff game on the line, Banning rose to the challenge on Friday. They came out on top against the Cougars by a score of 35-28.
Banning got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Steven Perez out in front who rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries. Perez was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 66 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Villanueva, who rushed for 73 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, La Jolla Country Day put the finishing touches on their eighth blowout victory of the season on Saturday. They really took it to Grossmont for the full four quarters, racking up a 73-34 victory on the road. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Jaden Mangini continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 429 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 13.4 yards per attempt, and also rushing for 113 yards and four touchdowns. Mangini is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last three games he's played. Madden Craig was another key contributor, picking up 194 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
La Jolla Country Day's defensive line stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Christopher Hughes was especially locked on to Grossmont's QB and sacked him three times.
Their wins bumped Banning to 8-6 and Crenshaw to 11-3.
