On Friday, the Zionsville Eagles faced the Hamilton Southeastern Royals in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Zionsville fell to Hamilton Southeastern 76-72. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (71), Zionsville still had to take the loss.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Allie Caldwell, who scored 27 points along with six rebounds. Caldwell continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Emma Haan, who scored 22 points along with three steals.
Hamilton Southeastern was led to victory by Kennedy Holman and Maya Makalusky. Holman scored 19 points along with nine assists and five rebounds, while Makalusky went 6 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 37 points and 0 assists. Makalusky is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Antonette Green, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Zionsville's loss dropped their record down to 16-5. As for Hamilton Southeastern, their victory was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Zionsville will take on Brownsburg at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Brownsburg will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings (they are ranked 53rd, while Zionsville is ranked ninth). As for Hamilton Southeastern, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Center Grove at 7:30 p.m. on January 20th. Center Grove is coming into the game hot, having won their last 13 games.
