The Quitman Wolverines will venture away from home to take on the Lakeside Warriors at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Quitman was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Simsboro on Tuesday. The Wolverines put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 16-5 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Wolverines as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Maggie Guyotte made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.
In other batting news, Quitman got a massive performance out of Hallie Kate Pullig, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That home run was Pullig's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Anna Claire Leach, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Quitman kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March of 2025.
Meanwhile, Lakeside made easy work of Mansfield on Tuesday and carried off a 15-2 victory. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Wolverines recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Like Quitman, Lakeside also got a great game from a two-way player: Peyton Wood. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave Wood a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Teal Austin was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Meredith Robinson was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Quitman's record now sits at 16-9. As for Lakeside, their record is now 17-8.
Quitman got the 'W' when the teams last played back in February of 2022 against Lakeside by a conclusive 16-4 score. Do the Wolverines have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
