The Chanute Blue Comets waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They snuck past Iola with a 64-58 victory. Given Chanute's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 47th, while the Mustangs are ranked 169th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the loss, Iola still got an impressive performance from Cortland Carson, who scored 21 points along with four steals. That was a full 36.2% of Iola's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Landon Weide, who scored 20 points.
Chanute is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. As for Iola, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chanute will take on the Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Fort Scott has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Iola, they will be playing at home against the Buffalos at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Prairie View is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
