Morgantown has gone 7-2 against Robert C. Byrd recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Mohigans will venture away from home to square off against the Eagles at 5:30 p.m. Morgantown is coming into the match hot, having won their last seven games.
Morgantown is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of West Virginia's top teams: Bridgeport, who was ranked seventh at the time (Morgantown was ranked sixth). The Mohigans came out on top against the Indians by a score of 5-1 on Wednesday.
Maddox Boggs spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Vincent Aloi, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Kai Henkins, who went 1-for-2 with two runs.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Robert C. Byrd ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. Everything went their way against East Fairmont as they made off with a 13-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.
Robert C. Byrd got a massive performance out of Cooper Floyd, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Floyd has become a key player for the Eagles: the team is 11-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was JD Ford, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Robert C. Byrd kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Morgantown's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-8. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Robert C. Byrd, their record is now 14-7.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Morgantown hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .328. However, it's not like Robert C. Byrd struggles in that department as they've averaged .321. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Morgantown's way against Robert C. Byrd in their previous matchup back in April, as Morgantown made off with an 11-3 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mohigans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
