Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 12 more assists than your opponent, a fact the Cox Mill Chargers proved on Saturday. They were the clear victor by a 50-29 margin over Central Cabarrus. Given Cox Mill's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 39th, while Central Cabarrus is ranked 136th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cox Mill's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Lauren Farrell, who scored 10 points along with 9 rebounds and 3 steals. Another player making a difference was Makayla Richardson, who scored 9 points along with 10 rebounds.
Kyra Lewis and Shelby Cruz certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Lewis scored 10 points along with 3 steals, while Cruz scored 5 points along with 6 rebounds. Lewis scored a full 34.5% of Central Cabarrus' points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
The win makes it two in a row for Cox Mill and bumps their season record up to 3-1. As for Central Cabarrus, their loss dropped their record down to 2-1.
Cox Mill will head out on the road to face off against Kings Mountain at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Central Cabarrus, they will be playing in front of their home fans against South Rowan at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
