Softball Recap: Streetsboro Takes Down Orange in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Streetsboro walked away with it. They blew past the Orange Lions 11-5 on Thursday. Considering the Rockets have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Payton Williams tossed a big game, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ella Simpson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Olivia DeToro, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Streetsboro pushed their record up to 17-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Orange, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-9.

Streetsboro wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 10-0 loss against Solon on the 16th. Orange does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
